helping girls make godly decisions

It was an interactive workshop where the girls learned how to choose actions, attitudes, and behaviours that please God and keep them safe, healthy and positively productive in life.

Project SURGE is a unique and holistic discipleship program that brings godly women to walk alongside young girls and guide them on a path to becoming mature and godly women. The project uses weekly meetings, sports, projects, adventures, workshops and planned outings as opportunities to know and understand each girl, her story, connecting her with God’s plan for her life and enabling her realize her importance and potential in this life. SURGE leaders use a time-tested curriculum that meets girls where they are developmentally, helping them build strong biblical foundations while networking, experiencing fun and engaging in healthy activities.

Project SURGE has been of great help to the 24 girls that attended the 12 sessions’ workshop. The sessions were spread across six weeks, which starting from the third week of October through to the first week of December 2015. It was an interactive workshop where the girls learned how to choose actions, attitudes, and behaviours that please God and keep them safe, healthy and positively productive in life.

One of the girls, Deborah, 15 that attended the project was really grateful at the end of the program because her self-esteem and confidence has been built.

At the beginning of the project, Deborah came to the program with a deep lack of self-esteem, courage and confidence. In the course of the six weeks program however, she told us of her experiences in life. She told us of how unfriendly her mother is, how she has never known the love of a mother, how she saw her sister been molested, and how she struggles with her academics, and other similar things.

All these experiences have contributed to sapping her self-image. But thanks to Project Surge the process of restoring her joy, giving her confidence and hope and empowering her with information and skills to help build her confidence begun on the first day of participating in the workshop.

Over the 12 sessions in six weeks workshop, Deborah has come up strong and free. She is able to easily express herself in public with feelings of courage and confidence and sees life from a different perspective – that she has value, a purpose and the potential to lead a better life.

Deborah says, “Surge has helped me learn how to handle and deal with issues of forgiveness. I used to find it difficult to forgive, but after learning so much of what it means to love and forgive, I now see reasons I must constantly forgive rather than hold grudges and bitterness. The past six weeks has shaped my understanding and helped me to focus on God and trust him as I grow and develop in life.”
